Important Update on Open Science Framework (OSF)

Starting in November 2026, the Open Science Framework (OSF) will phase out OSF Projects. Moving forward, OSF will no longer function as a general project collaboration or file management tool.

What is changing:

• Creation of new projects: OSF users will not be able to create new projects or add new project components after November 16, 2026.

• Existing projects: All existing OSF Projects (both public and private) will become read-only on February 19, 2027. Publicly shared data, materials, code, and files in these projects will remain publicly viewable and downloadable, but no edits can be made. 

• Workspace limitations: OSF will no longer support active, day-to-day project collaboration or primary file storage. 

What is remaining:

• OSF will continue to support study registrations, registry services, community-run preprint servers, and linked research records. 

Recommended Next Steps: If you currently use OSF Projects for active research collaboration or private file storage, please plan to back up your data or migrate your active workflows to an alternative platform prior to November 2026.
