What is TechSmith Knowmia (formerly TechSmith Relay)?
Knowmia is a presentation tool designed to streamline the sharing process, especially directed at educators on all levels of education. The Knowmia recorder allows anyone to create content from anywhere and publish videos on the Knowmia website. The Classic Recorder is installed on many PCs in the Tech Classrooms.
How do I get started using TechSmith Knowmia?
If you have already agreed to our User-Contributed Content Policy, you will be able to use Knowmia ASAP during business hours (M-F) after logging in at the Knowmia website for the first time.
If you have not yet agreed to our User-Contributed Content Policy, please navigate to our Upload Privileges Request page (login required) to read and accept our terms. Within two business days you will receive your acceptance message.
I upgraded to macOS 11.0 (Big Sur), and now Capture won’t record audio!

Where can I get training for TechSmith Knowmia?
TechSmith provides many great tutorials on their Help pages, and hold many live training webinars. If you are interested in attending a webinar but the time does not work out for you, you may still sign up for them; once each webinar is completed, a link is sent out to a recording of that webinar.

Can I share my recordings outside of the JMU community?
For right now, if you would like to share your recording with anybody outside of the JMU community, you will have to download it from Knowmia and upload it to another platform, such as illumira or YouTube.
What is the easiest way to share these with my students?
The easiest method is through Canvas using the Rich Text Editor Button. If you do not use Canvas, each video does have a “Share” option that helps you send a link.
Is there a way to integrate quizzes during or after a video that counts towards the Gradebook?

Why are my Zoom Recordings being sent to Knowmia?
With the Zoom cloud storage being limited to 60 days, Knowmia may be used as an alternative location to keep your Zoom recordings for longer. If you have Creator permissions in Knowmia, this is turned on automatically. Please note that only one recording is sent to Knowmia, and no supplementary files are.
What will happen to everything I recorded using the old version of Relay?
All recordings using the old version of TechSmith Knowmia will stay where you sent them (illumira, YouTube) unless you choose to move those recordings yourself.
How do I get help in using or learning to use TechSmith Knowmia?
For questions or concerns regarding TechSmith Knowmia, you have two options:

- Contact us through the IT Service Portal. To do so, Click Log in and log in, click Request Help, choose the Teaching and Learning category, choose Knowmia, then click Ask a Question or Report an Issue, as applicable. The Knowmia category may also be found by using the search bar.
