Makery Orientation & Training
Orientation
To ensure a safe and productive environment for everyone, all Makery users are required to complete a brief, one-time mandatory orientation. The orientation is available as a module in the JMU Libraries Makery Canvas course. This quick orientation covers essential safety guidelines and principles, helping you feel confident as you start your first project. Please complete the orientation online before visiting for a seamless visit. For community members without access to Canvas, a hard copy of the orientation content is available in The Makery. Staff will verify orientation completion on each visit.
Training
Training for equipment and tools is also available in the JMU Libraries Makery canvas course. We highly recommend completing training before using a tool. These trainings introduce foundational concepts and answer some basic questions. Users will spend more time making if these trainings are completed ahead of a visit.
Complete orientation, and then access training for the tool or space you are interested in learning more about. Some equipment, tools, and spaces require training before use or reservation. These include:
- Sewing
- Electronics
- Laser Cutting
- AV Studio
Workshops
Workshops offer dedicated time with staff to go over concepts and equipment. You can continue to learn more techniques and skills that the training modules introduce. Check out available workshops.
