Celebrating Arab American Heritage Month

April is Arab American Heritage Month! These resources offer ways to learn more about the rich heritage and contributions of Arab Americans and people with Arab heritage:  

  1. Streaming films: Watch a movie from the Arab American Heritage Month collection of streaming videos in Kanopy – an award-winning video streaming service providing access to more than 30,000 independent and documentary films, available to you for free as a member of the JMU community. 
  2. Book Display and Research Guides: These resources highlight relevant items in JMU Libraries’ collections: Arabic ResourcesHistory of the Middle East, and Understanding Complex Histories.
  3. A Podcast by JMU Students on Immigrant Stories: The Harrisonburg 360 podcast, created by JMU students under Dr. Allison Fagan’s guidance and with help from JMU Libraries, focuses on immigrant stories in the Shenandoah Valley. Check out these relevant episodes: The Female Gaze, Bravery Displaced, and The Huddled Masses.
