Celebrating Pride Month

Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Pride Month is a national, annual celebration observed in June to honor the LGBTQ+ community. It serves as a time for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies to celebrate diversity; promote inclusivity; and raise awareness about LGBTQ+ rights, issues and experiences.

In JMU Libraries, we’re taking this opportunity to share virtual book displays that we have created in partnership with JMU’s SOGIE (Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression):

Celebrating LGBTQ+ History Month & Health Literacy Month

In 2024, we created a virtual display in partnership with JMU’s Office of Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Expression (SOGIE) and the Office of Disability Services (ODS) to celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month and Health Literacy Month. The display offers a variety of books and videos centering sexual health, mental health, general health and wellbeing, and LGBTQIA+ rights.

Beyond Binary Book Display

This virtual display from 2023 features a variety of books and movies that center transgender and gender expansive voices and narratives.

These graphic novels, essays, memoirs, and more may offer perspectives that may be similar to and different from your own.

Queer Teach-In Book Display

Queer Teach-In Book Display: This virtual display, which was created to support the Queer Teach-In held on October 4, 2023, includes books and films focusing on theories, personal stories, and histories that explore the experiences of queer communities in the U.S.

Exploring Gender Identity and Expression

This display features more than 50 resources available through JMU Libraries to explore gender identity and expression.
