Celebrating Disability Advocacy Week

graphic explaining how "A11y" represents "accessibility ally" - the letters c to t are numbered 1-11, showing that "a11y" is shorthand for "accessibility" but also looks like the word "ally."

Join us in celebrating Disability Advocacy Week (March 30-April 3, 2026), organized every year by JMU’s Office of Disability Services! Check out the resources below for opportunities to learn, celebrate, and advocate for disability, accessibility, and belonging in higher education.

Disability Advocacy in Film

three films related to disability advocacy from Kanopy: My Beautiful Stutter, Anita, and Let Me Be Me

Check out My Beautiful Stutter, Anita, Let Me Be Me, and other films on Kanopy, an award-winning video streaming service providing access to more than 30,000 independent and documentary films, available to you for free as a member of the JMU community.

A New Book Display

A11y in Action is our newest book display, now online and in Rose Library. The resources in this display were selected by the Office of Disability Services in honor of Disability Advocacy Week 2026. This display focuses on practicing accessibility, being aware of disability-related issues, and fostering a community of inclusivity and allyship.

Research Guide

Our Disability Studies Research Guide supports JMU students and faculty interested in disability studies research, including in the Disability Studies minor.

Accessibility Resources from JMU Libraries

JMU Libraries is committed to the accessibility of our resources, services, online content, and spaces.

This year, we’ve been working harder than ever to support faculty with resources to make their courses more accessible, thanks to recent updates to Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act that require most online resources from JMU to meet basic digital accessibility standards by April 24, 2026

JMU Events

The Office of Disability Services has organized an impressive lineup of events for Disability Advocacy Week this year, including an ODS Open House, an Introduction to American Sign Language, a faculty workshop on creating accessible materials with MS Office, a trivia night and much more!
