About me

Liana Bayne is the Libraries Administrative Assistant to Dr. Bethany Nowviskie, Dean of Libraries. She also assists other members of Libraries Administration. She also assists the Public Services team in providing real-time chat assistance to Libraries patrons.

Liana’s research interests include the Anthropocene, sustainability, and their intersections with libraries; professional development among non-faculty members of libraries; therapy dogs in academic libraries; and Afrofuturism.


At JMU, Liana works closely with other Deans’ administrative assistants. She is also a member of AAASAC, serving on the Recognition Committee.

Liana is a member of the American Library Association’s Class of 2020 Emerging Leaders. She also serves on the Association of College and Research Libraries’ (ACRL’s) Literatures in English Section’s (LES) Membership committee.

Liana has been with JMU Libraries, in various positions, since 2015.
