The Great Move: Preparing Carrier Library for August
Posted April 9, 2026 in Carrier Renovation News, Featured News, Giving to JMU Libraries News, JMU Libraries News

When Carrier Library reopens on Monday, August 3, it will once again be filled with the books and other resources that Dukes rely on every day. Getting them there, however, requires a carefully planned series of moves.
Our teams are currently focused on moving thousands of pieces of furniture, equipment and technology into Carrier. Once the spring semester concludes, professional book movers will join the effort—relocating over four miles of books and other collections to their permanent locations in the renovated and expanded library.
Because we’re coordinating so many moving parts, the availability of library spaces and services will be different from usual over the coming months. We look forward to sharing details very soon; in the meantime, if you have questions about accessing the Libraries during the transition back into Carrier, please Ask the Library.
We are so grateful to everyone who is collaborating with us on this work—and to the JMU community for the grace you continue to show as we manage this complex transition.
August will be here soon—and Carrier Library will be ready for browsing, research, and discovery once again!
