Planning to work on research this summer? While library spaces, collections, and services will have limited availability from May through July as we move into Carrier Library, you’ll still be able to access many research resources.
To ensure we can open Carrier Library on time, some temporary closures and changes are necessary. Planning ahead will help you minimize disruptions to your work.
Equipment and Technologies to Borrow
- Borrowing: Check out any equipment you’ll need before June 19, when these services temporarily close: Equipment Loans (including Laptop Loans), The Makery, the Learning Innovations & Design Desk, and Music Library Technology.
- Returning: From July 6 through 31, please return checked-out equipment to the Ask the Library Desk in Rose Library; and return checked-out Music Library Technology to the Music Library.
- Reopening: Equipment Loans and the Learning Innovations & Design Desk reopen in Carrier on August 3. The Makery reopens in both Carrier and Rose on August 3. Music Library Technology reopens on July 6.
Books in Rose Library or the Music Library
- Borrowing: Check out materials before June 19, when Rose and Music close temporarily.
- Scan & Deliver: During this closure, you may be able to receive scans of selected sections of these books and journals through our Scan & Deliver service.
- Returning: Return books to our 24/7 book drop near Rose Library or any open library location.
- Reopening: Rose and Music reopen on July 6, along with Delivery Services.
Books in Storage
- Requests: Books and other physical items in storage need to be requested before May 11, when movers will begin relocating these collections to Carrier.
- Scan & Deliver: You may be able to receive scans of selected sections of these books and journals from our Scan & Deliver service during the move.
- Resuming availability: These items will be available again via Delivery Services starting July 6, and available for in-person browsing again once Carrier reopens on August 3.
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) Books and Materials
You may submit ILL requests at any time, but the availability of physical ILL items may be limited:
- June 19 through July 5: ILL will provide items in electronic format only.
- Requests for physical-format materials will remain in “Held” status until we resume processing these materials on July 6.
Summary of Closures: June 19 Through July 5
From June 19 through July 5, most of our books, physical resources, and spaces will be unavailable, including:
- Rose Library books and spaces (except the 24/7 Space)
- Music Library books and spaces
- The Makery
- Equipment Loans
