About me

As the Director of the Libraries’ Communications and Outreach department, my work includes:
  • supervising and supporting the members of the department
  • providing leadership and vision for the development of a coordinated, unified, strategic direction for communications, marketing, and outreach that advances the Libraries’ strategic priorities and aligns with the organization’s values
  • providing leadership and vision for the Libraries’ outreach through participation in JMU Orientation and other efforts led by Student Affairs departments
  • collaborating with colleagues to develop processes, workflows, and policies related to the planning, implementation, and assessment of communications, marketing and outreach work
  • ensuring that official, broad communications from the Libraries follow the JMU Brand Guide and the Libraries’ Brand Guide
  • serving as an official Libraries’ contact to the Division of Student Affairs, the Office of Admissions, and University Communications and Marketing
  • collaborating in the overall planning and management of JMU Libraries
  • pursuing service, scholarship, and professional development as a faculty member at JMU

About Communications & Outreach

The people in the Communications and Outreach department lead, coordinate, and support communications, marketing, and outreach efforts that promote the JMU Libraries and empower our diverse communities to engage with the Libraries. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to) social media outreach, displays, exhibits, event promotion, programs, graphic design, writing, and editing. This department manages the Libraries’ organizational relationship​​s with University Communications and Marketing, the Division of Student Affairs, the Office of Admissions, and selected other non-academic units. ​​​
